Anna Faris Opened Up About "Loneliness" Before Announcing Her Split From Chris Pratt
Fans were shocked Sunday night when Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced they were separating after eight years of marriage. The two actors put up a united front over the years and always seemed like the perfect Hollywood couple. ButPeoplenotes that in the most recent episode of her podcast,Anna Faris Is Unqualified, Faris opened up about how lonely it can be to have a public persona that's different from who you are at home.
"I play a character on Mom, I play a character in movies, but I also play a public character," Faris told her guest, musician Josh Ostrander. "There's definitely a loneliness and, like, an internal element to being a performer. I feel like I have to laugh." She said that once her public events are over, she never looks at the photos and she will never read reviews.
Faris talked about playing a character in the context of red-carpet events, but it still reveals the divide between her public and private lives. "I play a public character. I laugh loud sometimes — maybe too loud but it is a public character sometimes," she said. "Like, if I have a red carpet thing or whatever, which I'm never comfortable, but I'm always like, 'I'm fine!' And it never feels like me."
The split, which was reportedly over differences in what they wanted for their family's future, seemed especially shocking because Faris had recently talked about Pratt's romantic gestures. In an interview withLive Happymagazine, according toEntertainment Tonight, she told a story of how he rented a boat to take them up and down the Thames in London. "He's constantly doing really romantic things like that which are so wonderful," she said. "We get each other because even though we met under the lights of Hollywood, we're from the same place."
And it looks like she'll be discussing her marriage to Pratt in an upcoming memoir, which shares a name with her podcast. In excerpts from the book, she talks about even more gestures from Pratt, like braiding her hair, writing poems and letters by hand, and sending flowers to her TV show's set every week.
