Have you suddenly got a boil size painful thing on your feet? Do they seem to bother you only during the summers? These are what we call blisters!

There are many causes for blisters, but most the common reason is when the skin is repeatedly rubbed on the same spot. For example, when you wear a pair of shoes that may be tight or abrasive at one spot and it keeps scraping your skin on the same spot continuously. This can also happen when shoes don’t fit properly and when you wear shoes without socks and they come in direct contact with your skin.

How to treat blisters on feet?

Sometimes, doctors recommend simply popping the blister with a sterilized pin, letting the clear liquid out thus fastening the drying and healing part. Some people try and cut off blisters, especially ones that turn hard, but this is definitely not recommended as it may lead to further infections and complications. Instead of trying to bear the pain and discomfort and itching to cut or peel off the blisters, here are a few simple home remedies for blister on feet.

To be precise, these remedies are more of a preventive measure. Why not just make sure that you don’t get any blisters instead of bursting or cutting them?

1. Keep the feet lubricated:

One really simple way to keep your feet blister-free is by ensuring your feet are well lubricated, so that even if there is a direct contact between the shoe and your skin, your feet will not get scraped and hurt. Simply rub on a bit of petroleum jelly over your feet, especially the toes and heel area before you slip on your shoes. If you are out of petroleum jelly, you can also use baby powder over your feet. You can even apply it if the area has already started scraping, to avoid further hurt and infection.

2. Let your feet breathe:

Summers are especially difficult for your feet as they get super moist and sweaty being closed up inside shoes most of the time. If you have to wear shoes for long hours, remember to make sure you air them properly by letting them breathe in some nice and comfortable flip-flops. Also, if work permits, try wearing peep-toes or shoes and sandals that will allow your feet to breathe and get some air.

3. Wear well Fitting Shoes:

An important point to keep in mind if you want to keep your feet blister-free is to make sure that your shoes are comfortable and fit properly. Your shoes should neither be too tight or too loose. A great way to know if your shoes are too tight is to see if you can easily wiggle all your toes while you’re wearing your shoes. If you can, it means the fit isn’t tight. Also, your feet shouldn’t be feeling too loose inside the shoes, and when you walk, there shouldn’t be too much of a gap between the back of your heel and the back of the shoe – make sure your heel doesn’t slip when you walk.

4. Keep your feet dry:

When you take off your shoes, one of the first things to do is to make sure your feet are properly cleaned and free of any dirt. Next, dry them out completely, ensuring there is no water left between the toes, and it’s very important to sprinkle some powder if you can, all over your toes and entire feet, making sure there is no dampness left.

5. Give new shoes some time:

If you’ve got a new pair of shoes, give them a trial period before you wear them for longer hours. It’s a bad idea to head out on a long trip in a new pair of shoes before giving your feet enough time to adjust to them. Every time you buy a new pair, give it a few days, if required more, to adjust your feet and skin. Wear them, first with socks if they are cutting your skin for smaller time periods. Gradually, once the material softens and adjusts on your feet, the chances of blisters will reduce. It’s also a good idea to wear a protective tape like band-aid over your toes and any area that has been prone to blisters in the past.
